— The Wildfire Victims First coalition today launched a seven-figure statewide ad buy featuring two new spots: one featuring a survivor of the 2018 Camp Fire that destroyed the town of Paradise, and another spotlighting how trial attorneys have profited off wildfire victims' suffering. The ads focus on the consequences of a wildfire recovery system that continues to fail victims and ratepayers across the state, and press lawmakers for a permanent fix before the legislative session ends in August.

“Woody”

Features Camp Fire survivor Steve “Woody” Culleton explaining how insurance companies and hedge funds get paid first, while victims too often are at the back of the line.

“Stop the Greed”

Highlights how all Californians pay the price when trial attorneys are able to take 40 percent of wildfire victims' settlements.

The coalition is calling on the Legislature to enact a comprehensive Wildfire Victims First framework that:

  • Protects people from wildfires
  • Makes insurance available and affordable
  • Pays victims first, fast, and fairly
